He meant that a blocked path forces you to look for another, and that searching often grows you in ways the smooth road never would. The project that stalled teaches patience. The closed door points you somewhere you wouldn't have looked. You don't have to be glad about the obstacle. You just have to ask, honestly, what it's making possible or asking of you. Often the difficulty is not the end of the work—it's the part of the work that matters most.
