Marcus reminded himself to tend his own conduct first, and to be slow to judge what was happening inside another person. It's so easy to spot everyone else's flaws and stay blind to our own. But the only behavior you can actually change is yours. The Stoics treated self-examination not as a beating but as honest housekeeping—where did I fall short today, and how might I do better tomorrow? No drama, no shame spiral. Just an even look at yourself, the way a good friend would offer it. When you keep your attention on your own growth, you waste far less energy resenting the people around you.
