January 4 · Reflection
The mind loves to leave the present, rehearsing yesterday's regret or auditioning tomorrow's worry. But Marcus reminded himself that no one loses any life but the one they're living, this moment, right now. The past is already gone and the future hasn't come; both are out of reach. What you actually have is this breath, this task, this small stretch of now. When you notice you've drifted into some story about what was or what might be, you can come back. Not perfectly, not forever, just back, again and again. The present is small, but it's the only place anything real can happen.
