February 7 · Reflection
Epictetus taught that it isn't events that disturb us, but our judgments about them. Someone cuts you off, says something sharp, breaks a plan, and you feel the heat rise. That heat is real. But between the spark and your response there's a small gap, and inside that gap is your freedom. You don't have to fire back on the first impulse. You can let the wave of feeling crest and start to fall before you choose what to do. This isn't about being a doormat or pretending you're not upset. It's about acting from your values instead of your reflexes. The pause is short, but it's where your better self gets a vote.
