September 24 · Reflection
Epictetus drew a hard line: your choices are yours, the outcomes are not fully yours. You can study hard and still not control the result, love well and not control the response, work honestly and not control the market. This used to frustrate me until I saw the relief in it. You are responsible for your effort and your conduct, full stop. You are not responsible for guaranteeing how the world receives them. That means you can act with everything you've got and then genuinely let go, without it being failure. The shame of an unwanted outcome lifts when you locate your duty correctly. Today, give your best to something, then release the result instead of gripping it.
