It is easy to lose today by leaning into a tomorrow that hasn't come. Marcus reminded himself to confine attention to the present, because the present is the only thing anyone can lose or live. The past is already spent. The future is still a guess. What you actually hold is this hour, this cup of coffee, this conversation. That isn't a small thing. A life is just a long row of present moments, and missing them is missing the life itself. You don't have to do everything today. You only have to be here for it.
