I am choosing action over complaint where I can.

Marcus told himself to stop wasting breath on how things ought to be and to deal with how they are. Complaint feels like doing something, but it mostly just keeps the sting fresh while changing nothing. The Stoics weren't against naming a problem; they were against marinating in it. If you can act, act. If you can't, accept. The long middle ground of grumbling is where energy goes to die. This is gentle, not harsh, with yourself: just notice when you're circling a complaint for the tenth time, and ask whether there's one small step instead. Often there is. And if there isn't, letting it go frees you for what's next.

Inspired by the old idea of response not reaction. Written by Ugo Charles.
