I am here, in this breath, and this breath is mine.

The Stoics kept calling the mind back from the past and the future, the two places where most suffering lives. You can't be anxious about a future you're not in if you're fully here. Marcus noticed that no one loses any life but the present, because the past is gone and the future isn't yet. So the only place you ever actually live is now, this breath, this room. When your mind races ahead to everything that might go wrong, the breath is a doorway home. You don't have to fix the future to feel calmer. You just have to come back to the one moment you actually have.

Inspired by the old idea of present moment. Written by Ugo Charles.
