Epictetus taught that we are disturbed not by things, but by our opinions about things. The rude email, the silence, the delay, none of these carry distress on their own. It's the story we add, the 'this means I'm failing,' that stings. This is freeing, because while you can't always change events, you can question the verdict you've slapped on them. Maybe the silence isn't rejection. Maybe the delay isn't disaster. You don't have to force a sunny story. Just loosen the harsh one enough to see other possibilities. Much of your peace today depends not on what happens, but on how tightly you grip your first interpretation of it.
