Seneca was wealthy, and argued the wise person doesn't despise money but doesn't bow to it either. The danger isn't having things; it's being had by them, letting the fear of loss or the hunger for more run your inner life. You can hold money with an open hand: use it well, plan sensibly, and still not let it become the measure of your worth or the source of your calm. When the worry about money tightens its grip today, it can help to separate the practical problem, which you can act on, from the swirling dread, which only drains you. Tend the first, and gently set the second down.
