January 10 · Reflection
Marcus reminded himself constantly that all things are in flux, the people, the seasons, our own bodies, nothing holds still. At first that sounds bleak, but it cuts both ways. The hard moment you're in will also pass; it isn't the permanent shape of your life. And the good moment is worth holding closely precisely because it won't last. Impermanence asks you to loosen your grip a little, on the fear and on the joy alike. You don't have to clutch. Things move, and you move with them. Knowing this can make a heavy day lighter and a sweet one sweeter.
