I close this stretch grateful, and meet the next as it comes.

At the close of anything, Epictetus would have us hold two things at once: gratitude for what was given, and an open hand toward what comes next. The days behind you were a loan you got to use; you do not own the days ahead, and you cannot script them. What you can do is meet them the way you have practiced all month, by tending what is yours, releasing what is not, staying present to the day in front of you. There is no need for grand promises tonight. Just a quiet thank-you for what you were given, and a steady readiness for whatever is next. You arrive at this edge whole, exactly as you are, and that is a fine place to begin again.

Inspired by the old idea of gratitude and acceptance. Written by Ugo Charles.
