Marcus told himself that it's possible to start living rightly again at any moment, no matter how many times you've drifted. You don't have to wait for a new year or a clean slate. Each present moment offers a fresh place to begin, and you're allowed to take it. We often think we've fallen too far behind our intentions to bother, as if a slow start spoils the whole race. But the Stoics didn't believe in spoiled days, only in the next honest choice. Wherever you are tonight, however the month went, you can begin again from here. This moment is as good a starting line as any you'll get.
