October 12 · Reflection
Marcus would rouse himself in the morning by remembering he was made to do the work of a human being—not to stay warm under the blanket. He didn't shame himself; he just reminded himself what the day was for. You don't have to feel motivated to begin. Feelings often follow action rather than leading it. The smallest start—opening the file, lacing the shoes, making the call—is usually the hardest part, and also the part that breaks the spell of dread. Today, instead of waiting to feel ready, take the first small step as if you already were. Readiness tends to arrive once you've begun.
