November 9 · Reflection
Epictetus taught his students to aim carefully, like an archer, then accept that once the arrow leaves the bow, where it lands is no longer up to them. The wind, the target, the day, those are outside you. Your effort and your aim are yours. This is freeing once it sinks in. So much anxiety comes from trying to control the landing, which was never in our hands. You can prepare well for the interview, the talk, the hard conversation, and still not command the result. Doing your part fully is the whole of your job. Today, give your honest best to one thing, then practice letting the result be the result.
