Marcus noticed that we lose neither the past nor the future, since we never actually had them. The only thing anyone can lose is the present, because it's the only thing anyone owns. Your mind will drift to old regrets and tomorrow's what-ifs; that's normal. But peace tends to live in the narrow strip of right now, where things are usually more manageable than the stories about them. The dishes in front of you, the breath you're taking, the person speaking to you: this is your actual life. The rest is memory or imagination. Today, when you catch yourself far away in worry, come back to one real thing you can see or touch right now.
