November 1 · Reflection
November opens with a quiet sorting. Some things sit inside your hands: how you treat people, what you choose to try, the words you pick. Other things sit outside them: the weather, other people's moods, what already happened. Epictetus taught that almost all of our suffering comes from gripping the second kind as if it were the first. You are not lazy for letting go of what was never yours to carry. You are simply putting your strength where it can actually move something. Today, when you feel that familiar clench of worry, ask gently which kind of thing it is. If it is not yours, you are allowed to set it down.
