I keep my calm, even when the day will not.

Marcus called the mind a citadel, an inner fortress that no outside event can storm unless you open the gate. The traffic, the bad news, the difficult person, none of them can reach the quiet center of you without your permission. This isn't about feeling nothing. It's about knowing there's a steady place inside that the chaos can't automatically take. You can retreat there, in a breath, in a pause, and find that you're still standing. The world will keep being loud and unpredictable. Your inner weather doesn't have to copy it exactly. The storm can rage outside while a small, steady light stays lit within.

Inspired by the old idea of response not reaction. Written by Ugo Charles.
