Seneca pointed out that we so often look at what's been taken or never given that we miss what's right in front of us. Gratitude in the Stoic sense isn't forced cheer or pretending nothing's wrong. It's honest attention, turning your eyes for a moment to what's actually good: a warm bed, a body that mostly works, someone who'd answer if you called. These things go quiet when we get used to them. Naming even one of them, plainly, can shift how the whole day feels. You don't have to be grateful for everything. Just notice the one thing you'd genuinely miss if it were gone.
