I find my steadiness inside me, where no one can take it.

Marcus wrote that people look for retreats in the countryside or by the sea, but you can withdraw into yourself anytime, that the soul carries its own quiet place. We often think peace depends on the right conditions: a quiet house, a free weekend, fewer demands. Those help, but they're not always available, and a calm that needs perfect conditions isn't very reliable. The Stoics pointed inward to a steadiness you carry everywhere, available in a crowded room or a hard week. It's built through small returns to your own center, a breath, a remembered principle. You don't have to escape your life to find peace. You can find a pocket of it right where you stand.

Inspired by the old idea of the present moment. Written by Ugo Charles.
