Amor fati means loving your fate, but that's a tall order on a hard day, so start lower. You don't have to love what happens. You can begin by being willing to accept it, to stop fighting the fact that it's here. The Stoics noticed how much suffering comes not from events but from our argument with events, our insistence that things should be otherwise. When you stop bracing against reality, you free up the strength you were using to resist. From there you can ask the better question: given that this is true, what's the kindest, wisest thing I can do next?

Inspired by the old idea of amor fati. Written by Ugo Charles.
