Marcus kept returning to how fast things move. Whole cities, famous names, the people he loved, all of it flowing by like a river. At first this sounds bleak, but he found it steadying. If the good things are passing, you're freed to enjoy them now instead of clutching. If the hard things are passing, you can endure them knowing they won't be the whole of your life. Nothing you're feeling today is the final word. The job, the worry, the bright moment, all of it is in motion. Holding things lightly isn't coldness. It's the only honest way to hold something that was always going to move.
